Prepare a useful enquiry

Three things that help
us understand your needs.

01

Define the product

Share the product name, material, model, drawing or specification that explains the requirement.

02

Explain the application

Tell us how it will be used and which performance or quality criteria are essential.

03

Explore feasibility

Availability, supplier fit and required documents need to be assessed before an offer can be discussed.

An industrial sourcing enquiry

Bolts and screws: start with the drawing.

A diameter and length alone may leave important requirements open. Share the part designation, application and a controlled drawing or referenced product standard so proposed alternatives can be compared.

This is a sourcing-enquiry opportunity, not a confirmed supply range. Product, manufacturer, origin, availability and destination suitability require individual confirmation. Your technical team must approve the specification and any substitution.

Discuss an industrial fastener requirement

Include the details that distinguish the part.

  • Part number, drawing revision or product standard and edition; head and drive type, diameter, length, units and dimensional tolerances.
  • Thread system, pitch, thread length and tolerance or fit requirement; identify mating components that must be checked together.
  • Required material and mechanical property designation, with the reference used. Describe the application and operating conditions; do not assume a similar-looking part is interchangeable.
  • Finish or coating specification and any lubrication requirement. Identify dimensions or thread fit that must be checked after finishing.
  • Quantity by part, packing and identification, destination, delivery point and timing. Agree sample review, lot traceability and the inspection documents and acceptance criteria required before comparing offers.

The ISO fasteners committee overview distinguishes dimensions, properties, finishes and testing. It is a reference for preparing questions, not evidence that a proposed product complies with a standard.

A non-food sourcing example

Stainless steel table & kitchen articles.

Have a requirement for a bowl, tray, container or another non-electric kitchen article? Share a drawing or reference and the conditions in which it will be used.

This is an opportunity to submit a sourcing brief. Product, supplier, origin, availability and suitability require confirmation.

Enquire about stainless steel kitchenware

Prepare a measurable product brief.

  • Item name, intended use, drawing or reference sample and whether food contact is intended.
  • Required material designation and the standard it refers to; identify different materials used in handles, lids, coatings or other parts.
  • Dimensions, capacity, thickness or weight with units and tolerances; include the measurement method where important.
  • Surface finish, edge condition, joints, handles, lids and any marking or artwork requirements.
  • Quantity by item or size, individual and outer packing, destination, delivery scope and timing.
Before comparing offers

Agree what the sample must demonstrate.

Use the same drawing, specification and review criteria for every proposed alternative.

Download the non-food sourcing brief
  • State the intended temperature, contact duration, cleaning method and other use conditions relevant to the item.
  • Ask for product and material information for the actual proposed source. Define the test methods and acceptance limits your team requires.
  • Request evidence for any food-contact, recycled-content or certification claim. A material name alone does not establish suitability for an intended use or destination.
  • Record what the sample represents and how later supply will be checked. Confirm sample costs, minimum quantities and timing for the individual enquiry.

Use the product specification checklist and sample evaluation guide to organise your review.

Non-food sourcing questions

Start with the intended use.

Can I enquire about imports as well as exports?

Yes. Share the item, specification, quantity, origin preference if any and destination. Product and supplier feasibility, supporting documents and commercial terms require individual assessment.

Does “stainless steel” establish food-contact suitability?

No. The complete article, its materials, intended use and destination requirements need review. Describe the contact and cleaning conditions and request appropriate evidence for the actual proposed product.

Can I request another non-food material or item?

Yes. Use the general sourcing enquiry and include the material, drawing or reference, intended use, quantity and destination. This example does not limit the other-sourcing category.

For a food-contact application

Identify the destination requirements.

The European Commission’s food-contact materials overview explains the EU framework, including kitchenware and tableware. Ask an appropriate specialist to confirm the requirements for your article and destination. The link does not imply ExpoWing product approval or certification.
